Oh Sunday! A day of rest and staying in bed? Or a day for getting up and having some family fun?
We grabbed the family fun option and headed to Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh for the Subway & Helping Hearts Family 5K & NFL Flag presented by Subway UK.
On the day it was a cloudy start but it soon cleared up and we had some blue skies, lots of fun, laughs and selfies with Christian Scotland Williamson, an NFL player, who was an absolute inspiration and so hard working. He really focused on the kids having a great time, having FUN!
We had a fab time enjoying some fun moments with friends, meeting the mascots & eating our yummy lunch provided by Subway®.
Cailyn’s favourite part was definitely joining in with NFL Flag - (taking the ball and running off) & jumping on the inflatables!
Check out some of our favourite moments from the day below:
The race began at 12 where everyone gathered at the start line, joined by Christian for the count down.
It was really nice to see so many families and young children come out and run or walk the 5k.
It’s all about the taking part and showing support to the charities, so well done!!
On the ground we had some fantastic music being played from the Subway® Bus where they were cheering everyone on at the family village to get involved with the mascots, inflatable course, take some brilliant photos with the Subway® team and spread the word.
There was lots to do for the children, including face painting, foot ball nets & a giant garden game for little ones to play with.
Cailyn enjoyed this while helping another child to place the block into the right slot.
We took our time walking around the family village while always ending up back at inflatables so that Cailyn could go and jump around. She has no fear that one, it was really great to see her happy playing with so many children and getting hands on with some of the entertainment she could enjoy for her age.
It’s a great thing that Subway® are doing with Helping Hearts UK so if you’re close to a future event, go and sign up, support and spread the word. I know a few of you have already signed up for Birmingham, so that’s incredible!

At the NFL Flag area there were children in small groups that signed up to play. We watched the team interact with the groups and we really were amazed at the level of support they gave to the children who were being encouraged by the team to do their best and just have fun with it.
It really was so amazing to see such a fantastic level of enthusiasm for young people where simple things became great things.
This was a taster of the 12 week NFL Flag programme, presented by Subway®. Over 10,000 kids across the UK have already taken part in the programme– and it’s coming to Scotland very soon! If you would like your child’s school to take part, ask them to sign up here: NFLUK
I truly believe that encouragement & praise in young people can shape the future and make learning, active play and physical education more enjoyable.
